My 'recent' posts have talked about saving by combining a DIY VOIP solution with a SIP provider. For most people, including me, this can be way too time consuming to be valuable. So I dropped it.
And the Blog.
Now for the update: Margot and I decided that Vonage was no longer useful, so I decided to cancel it. I called, and prior to canceling the retention rep made three save attempts. The last one was interesting: Go on a Vonage Hold Plan at $5 per month (plus $5 tax) and three months free. It includes unlimited incoming calls and no outgoing calls. This is perfect because my wife and I make all of our calls from our cell phones. We have few incoming calls to our Vonage number - which is why we considered canceling it - and any that do go to voice mail. Vonage will email us the recording of the voice mail conversation.
Our three free-months expired, and while calling to cancel, I was offered the same deal; so we've got three more free months coming. I'll keep calling to cancel each time our free time is up. I expect that they'll keep offering the same deals.
